Experience rehab from wherever you feel the most comfortable…
You struggle…
You’ve been experiencing thumb pain that now interferes with your ability to pick up and care for your newborn.
You’re struggling with pain, numbness, and tingling in your hands that feels so bad throughout your workday that you feel sure that if you have to use the keyboard for one minute longer, then your hands will fall off.
You’re finishing that house project you’ve wanted to do for so long but are finding that your elbow hurts so bad that you cannot use that screwdriver or hold that paint roller.
You worry…
Who will care for your little one if you can no longer do it? You even feel guilty that your thumb pain is robbing you of the most precious time of your life… enjoying your newborn.
You worry that your productivity will fall behind, and you can’t afford to take time off work right now.
This is your only chance to do something you’ve wanted to do for so long, and now you have to put it on hold because your elbow pain is so bad after just a few minutes of work.
You adapt…
…by changing the way you do things and possibly even avoiding doing some things altogether. You’ve been relying on others to help you, which can be embarrassing and defeating.
You heal…
You have been wondering how you can get better with less pain and stiffness, but you don’t have the time or means to travel to appointments. You are ready to seek out a different solution and give virtual rehabilitation a try.
If a doctor has diagnosed you…
…with any shoulder, elbow, wrist, or hand injury, we can set up a hand therapy visit through a HIPAA-compliant video platform.
Diagnoses might include frozen shoulder, rotator cuff tendinitis, impingement syndrome, tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow, carpal tunnel syndrome, cubital tunnel syndrome, De Quervain’s tenosynovitis, or mallet finger.
This is not an exhaustive list, but your doctor may have referred you for “OT (occupational therapy),” “hand therapy,” or “teletherapy,” and that’s where I come in.
Don’t hesitate to call if you haven’t been diagnosed but think you may have one of these conditions. Sometimes. there is confusion about what to do when you have pain in your arm.
Many people ask me…
“What is hand therapy?”… or they have no clue that a therapist is even necessary for the hand.
The short answer is hand therapy is a specialty area of healthcare, but we treat much more than just the hand alone. We focus on helping people get better and return to work or daily activities after any injury to the shoulder, elbow, wrist, or hand region.
Depending on the timeline of your injury and the severity, you might require hands-on treatments such as splinting, massage, manipulations, or wound care.
If this is the case, telehealth is not for you, but I can assess your situation and refer you to the right source to give you that hands-on attention.
But for many cases, telehealth is a wonderful opportunity…
… to consult with a hand therapist in real-time through video – without the inconvenience of having to leave their home or workspace. Online appointments are MUCH easier to schedule!
People simply need to know WHAT is wrong and WHAT to do about it. That’s why I’m here.
If you contact me, I can help you decide if telehealth is something that you need. If we decide it is, I will set up an appointment with you that suits your schedule.
During our first appointment…
I will visually inspect your injury and determine what is wrong through observation and a series of questions.
I will also assess the range of motion of your injured body part with a goniometer (it measures the angles of your motion) as you move on the screen.
I can also assess your general strength based on your ability to handle a few household objects.
I will ask you about your goals so we can track them together. Of course, I’ll answer all your questions as we go.
Finally, I recommend gathering objects around the house as your “therapy goody bag” during each follow-up session. And if you don’t have the household items you need and would benefit from equipment, I will give you recommendations for what you need.
During follow-up visits…
I will re-evaluate your strength and motion and ask you about your weekly progress. Consider me your partner, holding you accountable for reaching your goals.
I will then instruct you on specific exercises and activities you can do to help you reach your goals. We can do these together so that I can demonstrate the correct form and position.
I will also discuss with you the timeline and frequency needed for these activities. No single exercise or activity plan is a good fit for everyone. Your goals, preferences, desires, personality, and what you have access to are unique, so we’ll choose what’s right for you.
For example, I once treated a person who wanted to return to cutting hair. Still, she experienced significant pain whenever she rotated her wrist for longer than a few minutes. She needed to practice and build tolerance for the motions involved in hair-cutting, but that was hard since she was out of work.
After looking at the things she had available at home, we set her up a box with sticky notes that she could practice cutting at different angles. With this training, she could eventually tolerate the movement and rotation in her wrist needed to return to work safely and confidently.
Let’s take charge of your health and productivity… at work and in life!
